Ventolin hfa machine, I was just over at ESPN.com and was looking at the Photos section (its one of the tabs by ESPN Motion) and before it shows you the photos, it shows a loading bar, and while loading it shows an ad… At first I thought this was a great idea, as I had nothing else to do while it was loading. Just a cheeeeezy way of sneaking in an ad. MTV does this too. It’ll squeeze in an ad for every three photos when looking through the pictures.

Yep, you guyz is smart. It is indeed the latter.
The only thing that bugs me about the photo gallery is that in Flash, you can’t dynamically load a JPEG and have it appear *right* after it is loaded. There is always roughly a one second delay between the time Flash reports it as loaded (via get total bytes and get bytes loaded) and the time it will display on screen. That’s why we have that little white line “progress bar” thing when you cross-fade the photos. The first 50% of the progress bar is the actual loading progress and the last 50% is the wait for the Flash latency. Gotta keep the user occupied…
