Standards/Design Group OPML

So, after reading through Veerle’s post about NetNewsWire, I decided it was time to get on the feed reader bandwagon. After looking around for quite some time, I couldn’t find any good OPML feeds for the Standards/Design community, to allow me to quickly add all of the feeds. So I decided to make my own…

I know there are probably a good amount of omissions, so if I have left you off, let me know in the comments, or contact me.

May 1st Reboot

Adam Howell has started a version of the May 1st Reboot, but instead of focusing on Flash content, it focuses on CSS. Yours truly has signed up for the CSS Reboot, and will relaunch this site on May 1st (maybe sooner).

I hope to more tightly integrate my moblog, and portfolio, while also actually redesigning the Flash and Photography sections (instead of slacking off on them like I did last redesign). Any suggestions for the new design?

Head on over to dream.in.code and participate in their latest contest. What’s the catch you ask? Your entry, would be to write tutorials. What’s the prize you ask? Some sweet, Klipsch Pro Media speakers.

From the site: Share your knowledge with fellow web developers and programmers and win the brand new, sick sounding Klipsch ProMedia 2.0 Personal Audio System… who else makes loud sound so good!?

I am usually not the kind of person to point of copies unless they are very blatent… And well, this one is…

http://blog.liu21st.com/blog.php

First off, he didnt even do a good job with the copy. I mean, at least TRY to blur out my graphics a little better than that, geez! Second, his site is slow as hell. I have yet to figure out if it is from the special characters/language, or just that he really screwed up my design…

Either way, I contacted him by posting a message on his Guestbook, feel free to do the same :)

UPDATE: Looks like he already changed the design. Thanks Liu, appreciate it. For those wanting to see it, here is a screenshot.

Why buy a watchdog…

and do the barking yourself?

Check out IAmJack.com

From the site:
Legendary adman David Ogilvy once said “Do not compete with your agency in the creative area. Why keep a dog and bark yourself?”

Yet, too many advertising clients don’t heed this advice. Every day, marketing people force their agencies to execute lame, watered-down advertising that everyone, including the target audience, despises.

Goodbye Webmonkey

Last week, WebMonkey announced that it would be shutting its doors following a round of layoffs in its parent company Terra Lycos. This is a sad day for me. I remember spending nights on end years ago, just reading through the articles on Webmonkey, trying my hardest to learn HTML, Javascript, and Photoshop.

Dont get me wrong, I havent seen a lot of new and inspiring content from Webmonkey, but I hope that the archives will be left up to inspire newcomers to the field. Goodbye Webmonkey :(

From the Wired.com article:

Launched in August 1996 as part of a fast-growing collection of websites funded by the original owners of Wired magazine, Webmonkey instantly became the surprise hit. Most of Wired’s sites offered the breathless cyber optimism and punditry the magazine was known for. As it turned out, online readers didn’t care for it. What they really wanted was: How do you build that Java-powered interface to your site?

My good friend Keith Robinson has redesigned his weblog for a third time. From what he writes, he went through the same process I did this last time I designed my blog. Instead of just editing MT templates, he has created his own template, them implementing MT code… It really does make things a lot easier to organize, and update. Great work Keith!

Well, apparently I dont develop my own website…. this guy does... Take a look at the bottom right graphic… Why do people do things like this? 1) that graphic looks nothing like my site, and 2) do people believe this crap?
